About

The Vibe

The Phoenix on Westheimer has been Houston's Premier League headquarters since 2006, and two decades of match-day mornings have worn a comfortable groove into this Montrose neighborhood pub. Sitting at the corner of Westheimer and Hazard, the Phoenix is an English-style neighborhood pub that prioritizes soccer above everything else. It does not try to be trendy or flashy. It is the kind of place where you walk in at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday, order a pint, and settle into a seat surrounded by people who care about the result as much as you do.

The Setup

Twenty-four LED TVs throughout the pub plus five projectors for the big matches give the Phoenix serious coverage. When a marquee Premier League fixture or Champions League knockout is on, those projectors come alive and the sound goes up. The indoor space is comfortable, but for larger crowds and bigger events, the bar extends into the outdoor parking lot area, creating an open-air viewing experience that works surprisingly well in Houston's climate.

Match Day Experience

The Phoenix opens before 8 a.m. for EPL matches, and the early-morning regulars are among the most dedicated supporters you will find in any American soccer bar. Multiple official supporter clubs meet here: the AVFC Space City Lions (Aston Villa), Houston Space Cityzens (Manchester City), Crystal Palace, Everton, and Leicester City supporters all call the Phoenix home. The atmosphere during big matches is genuinely passionate but friendly. Rival supporters coexist comfortably, united by a shared commitment to being up at dawn for football.

Food and Drink

The menu is broader than you might expect from a neighborhood pub. Traditional British pub fare like fish and chips anchors the menu, alongside burgers, chicken, and seafood options. What sets the Phoenix apart is a surprisingly extensive vegetarian and vegan menu, which is not something you typically find in soccer bars. The bar pours a solid pint and keeps prices fair for the neighborhood.

Who Goes There

The crowd is a genuine mix of British and European expats, American soccer converts, and MLS fans following Houston Dynamo. The Montrose neighborhood location adds a creative, eclectic edge to the crowd. Families show up for early matches. After-work supporters fill the place for midweek European fixtures. It is the kind of bar where the owner knows the regulars by name and newcomers are welcomed into the fold.

Insider Tips

For big Premier League matches, especially top-six clashes, arrive at least 20 minutes before kickoff. The indoor seats go fast, but the outdoor overflow area is a solid backup. Street parking in Montrose is usually available but can be competitive on weekend mornings. If you are visiting Houston for World Cup 2026 matches, the Phoenix should be your first stop for pre-game atmosphere and fellow supporters.
